Sick child showing signs of child behavior problems

One of the causes of unwelcome behavior is illness. This can be one of the most difficult tasks parents face. The situation is also very inconvenient to the child and parents can only do very little to control it. As a result, the child becomes irritable. It is not easy to handle a sick child. It is not only physically challenging but also financially draining because of the medical needs. The emotional impact of the illness of the child can affect his or her behavior. Parents need to deal with the emotional support the child needs in order to reassure him or her that everything is okay in spite of the situation. It is important to explain as honestly as possible to the child regarding his or her illness to make sure that he or she understands what is happening. This will help the child adjust to his or her medical condition.

When the child is ill, parents should show him or her love and affection. The child certainly needs lots of them so that he or she feels comfortable. In a child care setting, it is advisable to seek medical advice as soon as the childminder notices that the child is not feeling well. If necessary, call the child’s parents and let them know about the situation. If the child cannot join the activities or fails to behave appropriately due to illness, it is best to inform the parents and discuss if the child needs to stay in the setting or not.

Fear and Anxiety

Feelings of fear and anxiety are a normal part of the child’s development though some children experience them more intensely than others and it is important not to judge or ridicule them. As a matter of fact, it is advisable to acknowledge the child’s fear. Parents and childminders should not ignore these feelings especially when it comes to young children as they can absolutely influence the child’s behavior. While it is recommended to encourage children to do the things they are afraid or anxious to do, they should not be forced to do them if they refuse to face them because it can be a traumatic experience forsome children, which can only make the situation complicated. Change is something that makes the child feels scared or anxious. Some children are not ready for change and can hardly adapt to it. Hence, they become upset and angry. Settling in is not always easy to children. It goes through a process and how long it takes before they are settled largely depends on the child’s age and level of development.

In this case, parents and childminders must help increase the child’s self-esteem. Help the children build their confidence by giving praise and words of encouragement. It is true that you cannot avoid the child from feeling scared or anxious even with careful planning. There are some situations where the best thing parents and childminders can do is to give emotional support to the child when he or she is scared or anxious. Do not forget to offer reassurance to the children when they have these kinds of feelings.

Some changes include starting to school or moving to a new home. Honest communication is always the key to make the child understand the entire situation. Parents must talk to their child about the plans so that they feel they are important and their opinion matters. Talk positively with the child and never underestimate their feelings.

Frustration

Dealing with frustration in children can be a daunting task. This can contribute to the child’s unwelcomed behavior because it can be an obstacle to achieve their goals and aspirations in life. Difficulty focusing makes them feel irritable and the experience can be truly infuriating. When the child is frustrated, they cannot control their emotions and some of them lose their temper and start to behave badly. Adults can deal frustration constructively but it is a different story when it comes to children.  Children feel despair when something they do frustrates them especially if it is a failure.

In order to address this feeling effectively, it is important to have an open communication. Some children lack the ability to communicate and they feel frustrated if parents or childminders do not understand what they are trying to say. It is important to take time to listen to their needs attentively and respond appropriately. How the parents and childminders respond to frustration can also contribute to how children react to it. It is therefore best to remain calm and positive.
